7 Clean Beauty & Skincare Products in My Daily Routine

There’s nothing better than a little self-care to keep your life glowing and peaceful. For me, pre-pandemic, that meant relaxing monthly facials and body scrubs at the day spa. I’ve also always had an arsenal of high-performance, luxury skincare products close at hand. In those days, I was definitely feeling zen, glowing and happy.

But then I took a closer look into the ingredients in my skincare products. The number of toxins blew my mind! Ingredients like synthetic chemicals, parabens, preservatives, fillers, artificial fragrance, artificial colors, GMOs, and the list goes on. I won’t lie to you — it was a little heartbreaking to find these in my favorite products. After all, our skin is actually our largest organ!

Even though we think of our skin as a barrier between the inside and outside world, toxins can still be absorbed. This is why using nutrient-dense, low-toxic products is so important!

A quest for the best

I immediately decided to make a change, skip the toxins, and start over - purchasing and supporting brands that offer safer, low-tox skincare essentials. When looking for non-toxic skincare products, it's important to go beyond common buzzwords like "clean" and "free of synthetic chemicals and fragrance." Here are some additional key terms and certifications to look for on labels:

  1. CERTIFIED ORGANIC: Look for certifications like USDA Organic, which ensures that the product is made with at least 95% organic ingredients.

  2. ECOCERT: This certification indicates that the product meets strict environmental and social standards, including the use of natural and organic ingredients.

  3. COSMOS: The COSMOS-standard certification ensures that the product is made with organic and natural ingredients and adheres to sustainable practices.

  4. Non-GMO: Products labeled as non-GMO are free from genetically modified organisms, ensuring a more natural formulation.

  5. Phthalate-Free: Phthalates are chemicals used to make plastics more flexible and can be harmful. Look for phthalate-free products.

  6. Paraben-Free: Parabens are preservatives that can disrupt hormones. Look for products labeled as paraben-free.

  7. Sulfate-Free: Sulfates can be harsh on the skin and strip away natural oils. Look for sulfate-free products.

  8. EWG Verified: The Environmental Working Group (EWG) verifies products that meet their strict health and safety standards.

  9. Cruelty-Free: Look for certifications like Leaping Bunny or PETA's cruelty-free logo, which indicate that the product was not tested on animals.

  10. Vegan: Products labeled as vegan do not contain any animal-derived ingredients.

  11. Eco-Friendly Packaging: Look for products that use recyclable, biodegradable, or minimal packaging to reduce environmental impact.

  12. Fair Trade: Fair Trade certification ensures that the ingredients were sourced ethically and that workers were paid fairly.

By paying attention to these labels and certifications, you can make more informed choices about the skincare products you use and ensure they align with your values and health goals.

I’ve come to absolutely love many different products and am sharing some of those amazing brands with you today. These products are packed with collagen-boosting vitamins, hydration, and antioxidants (say goodbye to wrinkles!) and support our whole health… plus fresh and radiant skin!

#2. Osea Malibu - Sea MINERALS MIST

A couple of years ago, I started using a hydrating spray and have since tried several products that are fantastic. Right now, I’m loving the Osea Malibu Sea Minerals Mist and now I won’t go a day without a hydrating spray. The Osea Malibu Sea Minerals Mist eliminates the look of fine lines by plumping and toning the skin for a healthy incandescent glow. It is also a great toning base for my serums or even setting make-up for the day.

This facial mist is full of anti-aging benefits and refreshes and invigorates my skin. Key ingredients include a proprietary trio of seaweeds (gigartina macrosystis, undaria), aloe vera leaf juice, dead sea salt… indulging your skin in this sea-inspired concoction sounds so luxurious, right?!

I mist a few sprays onto my face after cleansing. Reapplying a couple of times a day for a quick refresh is encouraged! Of course, this product is also vegan, cruelty-free, organic, and packaged in a glass bottle for recycling.

#3. Osea Malibu - Hyaluronic Sea Serum

The Osea Malibu Hyaluronic Sea Serum gives my skin a boost of hydration and absorbs quickly into the skin. My skin can appear dry and flaky if I don’t moisturize regularly; however, adding this serum to my routine has helped keep it smooth and hydrated. One to two drops goes a long way and covers my entire face and neck.

Hyaluronic Sea Serum is made with a combination of a trio of seaweeds, hyaluronic acid, and sodium hyaluronate. This serum is made for long-lasting moisture and a visible lift, and I’ve found that it is best used after washing your face, before moisturizing.

Hyaluronic Sea Serum is vegan, cruelty-free, organic, and (like the one above) packaged in a glass bottle for easy recycling.

Go To For: Adding moisture and lift to your face.

#4. Odacite - Papaya Geranium facial serum concentrate

I use the Papaya Geranium Facial Serum Concentrate from Odacite daily to combat the hyperpigmentation that I’ve noticed popping up lately. A couple of drops applied to targeted areas and the dark spots that I’m treating are gradually appearing lighter. This product’s application is a spot treatment but the drops may be added to a moisturizer as well.

The website gives a delicious description of the ingredients as made with the highest grade cold-pressed certified virgin papaya seed oil, Vitamin E oil, geranium oil, and lemon essential oils. The Odacite products are 100% natural, GMO-free, Vegan, gluten-free.
